Crane Hazards

Specialty Rigging relies on cranes to hoist and lift the heavier objects we’re tasked with moving.

We make sure every crane and boom is thoroughly inspected to avoid any hazards.

One of the most important pieces of equipment for rigging in our arsenal is the crane. Our cranes lift and transport heavier machinery and can also be used for various applications. Because of our vast knowledge and years of experience in rigging our staff is trained to properly handle the equipment. That’s why Specialty Rigging has created a small checklist to identify potential hazards and to prevent any incidents when in the field.

Crane Hazards

There are a few main causes of crane hazards. We always double-check our inventory to prevent these hazards.

Excessive Load – The Occupational Safety and Health Administration estimates 80% of crane accidents come from exceeding a crane weight limit. Overloading a crane can and will cause damage to its structure then leading accidents. If the integral structure of the crane fails, this can have staff injured by falling objects. We combat overloads by never taking heavier loads than the cranes capacity, and always make sure the load is secure.

Falling Materials – Materials not being secured can cause injuries, and damage the items. This could happen from visual impairment, mechanical failure, or operator incompetence. Because of this, we triple-check our rigs, only work with the best equipment, and have our staff trained on all equipment. Overall, with a competent operator, you can reduce the swinging of loads, reducing the risk of materials falling.

Lack of Maintenance – All items have an expiration date. Crane Hazards can come from external factors like decayed ropes, tarnished electrical wires, and other components. All single components make the lifting come together so worn-out equipment will make your loading impossible. Specialty Rigging does thorough inspections of our equipment to prevent injuries and hazards.
